DEERFIELD REGIONAL

No. 7 Deerfield won its 13th regional in program history following its 197.0 point effort at home to earn a trip to the St. Ignatius dual-team sectional semifinal contest with Wheeling this Thursday night.

The Warriors regional title at home comes after back-to-back second place results to Wheeling, last year, and IC Prep in 2024.

Grayslake Central, with four individual champions, finished second with 168.5 points, with Antioch third at 153.5 points.

Carmel Catholic (122.5), Grayslake North (68.0), Highland Park (63.5), were the next three on the leader board, with Lake Forest, and Lakes tied for seventh with 38.5 points each.

Deerfield coach Marc Pechter’s club would claim a trio of individual champions: Jorey Becker (120), Adrian Cohen (138) and Jonathan Weissmueller (165) from a field loaded with state ranked men.

The Warriors would also receive second place medals from: Jake Pechter (106), Jayme Cohen (113), Danny Martinez (126), Alex Shvartsman (144), Danny St. John (175), and Josh Dixon at 215.

Jack Jansen (132), and Ben Howard (150) would pitch in with third place medals.

RICKOVER NAVAL ACADEMY REGIONAL

No. 1 IC Prep would flex its collective muscle in Chicago when it won 12 of 14 weight divisions en route to nearly 300 overall points to easily claim the regional title at Rickover Naval Academy.

The reigning class 2A state champs would amass 295.0 overall points, far ahead of runner-up Fenwick (180.0) and third place host Rickover Naval Academy with 93.0 points.

The next five teams in the final standings were: Elmwood Park (91), Ridgewood 89), Noble/ITW Speer (87.5), Westinghouse College Prep (43.5) and Schurz.

Knights fans would celebrate individual titles from: Michael Bird (103), Drew Murante (113), Kannon Judycki (120), Sam Murante (126), Max Cumbee (132), Jack Hanrahan (138), Frank Nitti (144), Aiden Arnett (150), Joey Pontrelli (157), Brody Kelly (175), Foley Calcagno (190) and Anthony Sebastian (285) who would all pin their opponents in their respective finals.

Freshman Anthony Keating (215) would finish third overall to advance along with his teammates to the Antioch sectional in two weeks.

Next up for the Knights will be a dual-team sectional semifinal at St. Ignatius against the host Wolfpack this Thursday evening.

ST. IGNATIUS REGIONAL

The host Wolfpack would delight its home crowd with when it won its first-ever regional team championship in program history with 248.5 overall points to roar past the competition Saturday afternoon at the famed high school on the near west side of Chicago.

Individual champions: Julian Lopez (106), Alex Villanueva (120), Colin McCann (132), Colton Huff (138), Luke Sanchez (144), Nino Capuano (150) Melson Ngassa (215) will lead a contingent of (11) into the Antioch sectional in two weeks, and a date with No. 1 IC Prep this Thursday, at home in a dual-team sectional semifinal.

Second place medal winners: Frank Valle (113), Ashok Chacko (165), Colin Offen (190) will join their teammates in Antioch, as will Lucas Capuano (157) and Dave Reardon (285) who both would finish third on the day.

DePaul College Prep, with a quartet of individual champs was second overall with 196.0 overall points, followed by Noble/UIC, far behind in third with 113.0

Lake View would round out the top four with 101.0 points, with Senn (85.5), Amundsen (77.5), Intrinsic Charter (36.5) and Noble Street Charter (15.0) all next.

WHEELING REGIONAL

After a long dry spell that extended back to the winter of 2016 and 2017 when Wheeling won back-to-back regional titles, the Wildcats program has been in the deep freeze.

However, head coach Charlie Curran, former Hersey star and later an all-American at Elmhurst College, has helped turn the Wildcats into a solid group, witnessed by its second consecutive regional title on Saturday.

The Wildcats would eventually put some distance between themselves and runner-up Wauconda, scoring a tourney-high 193.5 points, 20.5 better than the Bulldogs 173.0.

St. Viator, with its three individual champions, finished third with 120.5 points.

Cary-Grove (115.5), Vernon Hills (92.0), Fenton (84.0), Northridge Prep (74.5) and Streamwood, in its first year in class 2A was eighth with 37.0.

The regional champion Wildcats will travel to St. Ignatius on Thursday to play Deerfield in a dual-team sectional semifinal.

The Wildcats will send 11 into the Antioch sectional in two weeks, where they will be lead by the championship foursome of : Frankie Katz (113), David Perez (120), Nicholas Montesinos (165), and heavyweight Pablo Morales.

They will joined by 106-pound runner-up Tommy Katz, Austin Berger, second at 150, and John Scanlon, second at 150, along with third place medal winners: Christian Giron (126), Juan Escanuela (132), Byron Arreola (144) and Eddie Juarez at 215.
