For the past 28 years, Mike has been a prep sportswriter for the Daily Herald in the sports of wrestling, boys and girls soccer, and boys tennis, covering for the Cook, DuPage, Fox, and Lake County areas

Mike is an IWCOA Senior Feature Writer since 2017 and was the 2017 IWCOA Media Person of the Year. He has covered boys state wrestling tournaments for 27 consecutive years for the Daily Herald. During those years, he has filed over 2,200 stories from tournament action, State individual tournament & State dual-meets. Mike was a contributing feature writer for Pioneer Press & Illinois Matmen from 2016-2019.

In addition to being the beat writer for both boys’ and girls’ soccer for the Daily Herald, he was also on the Chicago Fire soccer beat during the first three seasons from1998 to 2001. Mike was named Media Person of the Year seven times by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association. Mike and his wife Linda live in Palatine, they have two children and six grandchildren.
