Mark began his career at Leyden High School, wrestling for Hall of Famer Charles Farina. He attended Northeast Missouri State where he received his BA. He received his MA from Eastern Illinois U. Coaching began with the Franklin Park Raiders, with Hall of Fame brothers Roy and Ray Conrad. His first high school experience came at Niles Notre Dame High School with Hall of Famer Jon Schaus. That year Notre Dame won the ESCC Conference Championship. Mark then coached at Northeast Missouri State, winning one Missouri Athletic Conference Championship, with 3 Division II All Americans. He also was the graduate assistant to Ron Clinton at Eastern llinois U. HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
Mark coached at Marist High School in 1982, as an assistant to Bill Stevenson. That year Marist won the State High School Championship. Mark became the Head Coach the following year. Since then, his teams have won 249 dual meets; the ESCC Championship 12 times; won 9 Regionals and 6 Sectionals. His teams have qualified for the State Dual Championships 6 times: 1985 Placed 3rd 1986 1987 Won State Championship with a perfect 25-0 record 1988 1989 Placed 3rd 1991 Placed 3rd He has had 38 State Qualifiers; 18 State Placewinners; and 7 individual championships. Mark has been affiliated with the IWF and USA Wrestling since 1978. He has been a free style coach at the Juniors; he has been a free style coach for the cadets and in 1994 he was the free style coach for the Illinois World Team.
Mark was President of the IWCOA in 1989. Mark has worked a number of summer camps, both in Illinois and Michigan.
