Urbana Wrestling Invitational

Effingham not only won its first tournament title of the season at the 15-team Urbana Wrestling Invitational, it did so in style by scoring 187.5 points, which was 46.5 points ahead of Normal Community’s junior-varsity (141) while Limestone edged Richwoods 140.5-136 for third place.

Effingham’s best tournament showing this season prior to this competition was at the Marion Duals, where it went 4-1 and took third place in the 17-team small school division.

Coach Jeremy Patnaude’s champion Flaming Hearts had no champions and were led by five second-place finishers. They were Jonah LeDuc (24-6 at 106), Brendan Stewart (20-10 at 113), Jeremiah Giles (16-11 at 157), Keegan Woodall (13-13 at 190) and Jeremiah Lorton (28-3 at 285). Five other individuals finished in fifth place or better to help lead to the easy title victory.

1st – Effingham (187.5)

Beside their five second-place finishers, the Flaming Hearts received third-place efforts from Gabe Raddatz (144) and Gage Emmerich (175), fourths from Morgan Banning (120) and Mason Bushue (150) and a fifth-place showing from Cole Dulumback (132). Also scoring points were Christopher Hurley (138) and Ben McDowell (165).

“These guys really impressed me this weekend,” Patnaude said. “We are a fairly young team with a lot of heart.”

Cole Dulumback had the most pins in the least time with three in 2:11. Effingham ranked second in both total match points (177) and pins (18).  

Last season the Flaming Hearts made history with their wrestling program when senior Kaiden Stewart went 37-15 and not only became the school’s all-time wins leader with 122 victories but also the first individual from his school to win a match at the IHSA 1A Finals.

2nd – Normal Community junior-varsity (141)

While coach Trevor Kaufman’s Normal Community varsity team was competing nearby at Mahomet-Seymour’s Marty Williams Invitational, his Ironmen junior-varsity nipped Limestone by one-half point to capture second place.

Normal Community got titles from Bryce Kuhlman (17-5 at 106), Carson Yokel (15-12 at 126) and Victor Reyes (18-4 at 165) while Amarii Ollie (8-4 at 215) took second place and Aaron Brucker (113) and Reginald Luckett (285) finished third. Kuhlman and Yokel tied three others for the most team points with 28 while Reyes and three others were tied for sixth with 27.5 points.

3rd – Limestone (140.5)

Limestone fell one-half point behind runner-up Normal Community junior-varsity but beat out Richwoods by 4.5 points to claim third place.

Leading coach Tim Ricca’s third-place Rockets were champions Kaiden Capranica (10-10 at 113) and second-place finishers Kaleb Fuchs (9-5 at 120), Logan Keller (9-10 at 126), Ethan Flanigan (8-9 at 132) and Leo Vigneux (8-11 at 144). Other top finishers were Griffin Crow (165) and Sebastian Daniels (175), who took fourth, and Xavier Torrence (157), who was fifth.

TEAM: Richwoods had the most pins with 20 while Edwardsville was second with 18 and Danville was third with 13. Normal Community’s junior-varsity had the most wins by technical fall with four while Limestone and Riverton were next with three. Richwoods was first in total match points with 188 while Effingham was second with 177 and Dunlap ranked third with 160.

INDIVIDUAL: Effingham’s Cole Dulumback had the most pins in the least time with three in 2:11 as 10 others also recorded three pins. Riverton’s Harrison Lott was the only individual with three wins by technical fall, and did so in 6:31 while no one else had more than one. There was a five-way tie for the most team points with 28 between Normal Community J-V’s Bryce Kuhlman and Carson Yokel, Limestone’s Kaiden Capranica, Heyworth’s Jarrod Fulcher and Danville’s Josiah Williams. And Richwood’s Gabe Robb, Normal Community JV’s Victor Reyes, Charleston’s Trotter Titus and Crete-Monee’s Trevon Williams tied for sixth with 27.5 team points. Riverton’s Harrison Lott collected the most total match points with 53 while Crete-Monee’s Travonte Boyd was second with 48 and Richwoods’ Gabe Robb was third with 42. And three individuals had the largest seed-place difference with nine positions, Limestone’s Griffin Crow, Richwoods’ Joseph Nelson and Danville’s Josiah Williams.

Mahomet-Seymour Marty Williams Invitational

Naperville Central only had one champion, Nicolas Olvera, and one runner-up, Jacob Cochran, but it received 16 or more points from 11 other individuals and that helped it to capture top honors at Mahomet-Seymour’s 23-team Marty Williams Invitational with 399 points, which was 13.5 points ahead of runner-up Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/ Fisher while the host Bulldogs beat out Fort Zumwalt North, MO 379.5-372 for third place.

Morris (302.5), Rochelle (297), Champaign Central (268), Rock Island (261.5), Bloomington (239) Peoria Notre Dame (230.5) rounded out the top-10 teams in the competition.

1st – Naperville Central (399)

Leading the way coach Noah Fitzenreider’s champion Redhawks were title winner Nicolas Olivera (31-8 at 175) and second-place finisher Jacob Cochran (36-3 at 138) while Dalton Meluch (120) and Paul Peradotti (190) took third place, Jake Moore (126), Calum Bohan (157) and Caelon Young (215) finished fourth and Vince Bern (150) and Reid Balis (157) took fifth.

In addition, Jayden Davis (285) was seventh, Jack Fitzgerald (132) and Chase Castro (175) took ninth, Rowen Patel (113) and Oscar Binkowski (165) finished 10th and Beau Berkowitz (106) and Mateo Bestiero (285) claimed 11th place. James Ball (144) also scored points while Josh Bern (126), Oliver Kukis (132) and Nate Sadowski (215) added wins for the Redhawks.

“The guys wrestled really well,” Fitzenreider said. “We are starting to hit our stride coming into the postseason.  I’m excited about the state series and I think our guys are going to be ready to make a run.”

2nd – Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/ Fisher (385.5)

Top performers for coach Josh Carter’s runner-up Falcons were champions Landen Lage (30-2 at 138) and Hudson Babb (33-0 at 157) and runner-up Bentley Fields (27-8 at 106) while Ian Rotramel (113) took third and Ethan Lowe (175) was fourth.

Camden Brucker (132) and Cooper Miller (165) placed fifth, Kaden Huster (120) and Nolan Lowe (144) finished sixth, Gage Martin (126) was seventh, Julian Rodriquez (106) took eighth, 

Isaac Rotramel (126) claimed ninth and Hunter Brandon (150) placed 10th.

3rd – Mahomet-Seymour (379.5)

Turning in the top performances for the third-place Bulldogs, who are coached by Rob Ledin, a 2025 recipient of a Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Illinois Chapter, were runner-up Marco Casillas (32-3 at 190), third-place finisher Weston Neutz (157) and fourth-place medalists Myles Hartzler (106), Justus Vrona (144) and Talon Decker (165).

In addition, Christopher Dill (175) finished fifth, Grant Morphew (113) placed seventh, Noah Meints (120), Liam Noonan (138), Garrett Waisath (150), Frank Watson (215) and Jose Torres (285) took eighth place, Dominic Gaudio (165) was ninth and Xavier Foster (126) finished 10th.

Naperville Central’s Vince Bern was the only individual who got four wins by technical fall. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/ Fisher’s Kaden Huster and Fort Zumwalt North, MO’s Nick Rebstock had the largest seed-place difference of 18 spots.

TEAM – Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/ Fisher had the most pins with 22 followed by Fort Zumwalt North, MO with 19 and Mahomet-Seymour with 18. Fort Zumwalt North, MO had 13 victories by technical fall while Bloomington and Naperville Central both had 10. And Naperville Central scored the most total match points with 480 while Fort Zumwalt North, MO was second with 460 and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/ Fisher ranked third with 424 points.

Carmi-White County Invite

Carterville only had one champion but placed nine individuals in the top four at their weight classes to help it claim first place by a 158.5-147 margin over runner-up Robinson at the 17-team Carmi-White County Invite in Carmi.

Lawrence County co-op (Lawrenceville/ Red Hill) took third with 130.5 points while Mt. Carmel and Oblong/ Hutsonville/ Palestine co-op tied for fourth place with 121.5. Frankfort Community/ Christopher (96) co-op, Richland County (84.5) and Red Bud (76.5), Harrisburg (73.5), Carmi-White County (73) and Breese Central (70.5) were next in line in the invite. 

1st – Carterville (158.5)

Leading coach Daniel Alderman’s Lions were champion Terry Mick (23-8 at 175), runners-up Gavin Slack (20-11 at 150) and Hudson Bisching (18-17 at 157) and third-place finishers Isaac Wood (120), Austin Campbell (132), Carl Watkins (215) and Bryce Reimann (285).

Also for Carterville, Addison Mann (138) claimed fourth place while other scorers from the championship team were Grayson Slack (106), Braden Poskevich (113), Timothy Cupp (144), Cal Dunning (165) and Braeden Erwin (190).

“The coaching staff and myself, you are very proud of our team this week,” Alderman said. “Not just for winning the tournament. We challenged the wrestlers in practice and worked with them on putting a package together and executing. It all seemed to come together pretty solid this weekend. The coaching staff was very proud of the wrestlers, hard work and willingness to be coachable and trust the process they are putting into place.”

2nd – Robinson (147)

Top performers for coach Tanner Keeler’s second place Maroons were title winners Landon Cornwell (27-10 at 113) and Broady Kelly (35-2 at 138) and runners-up Gracen Elliott (27-9 at 120) and Reese Baker (9-7 at 190). Taking third place was Lenox Parker (175) while Tucker Hill (215) finished in fourth place.

3rd – Lawrence County (130.5)

Turning in the best showings for coach Cody Bobe’s Lawrence County co-op team were champions Dalton Baker (24-7 at 106), Kyler Guercio (22-7 at 120) and Cale Seitzinger (30-6 at 150), runner-up Nick Morehead (24-9 at 175) and third-place finisher Drew Seitzinger (126).

TEAM – Carterville, Mt. Carmel and Robinson all recorded 15 pins. Robinson was the only team to collect four wins by technical fall while Carterville, Lawrence County, Mt. Carmel, Oblong/ Hutsonville/ Palestine and Salem all had three. And Carterville had the most total match points with 315 while Mt. Carmel collected 271 points and Lawrence County scored 269 points.

INDIVIDUALS – Lawrence County’s Dalton Baker, Red Bud’s Danny Jackson, Harrisburg’s Braxton Welge and Oblong/ Hutsonville/ Palestine’s Jude Wirey tied for first for the most team points with 26. Salem’s Rylan Moore was fifth with 25.5 points, Robinson’s Broady Kelly and Mt. Carmel’s Carter Pyatt tied for sixth with 25 points and Frankfort Community/ Christopher’s Hudson Anderton was eighth with 24.5 team points. Oblong/ Hutsonville/ Palestine’s Owen Griffin was the only competitor with five falls. Lawrence County’s Kyler Guercio, Robinson’s Broady Kelly and Carterville’s Isaac Wood tied for first for wins by technical fall with two. 

Breese Central’s Anakin Ricklefs had the most total match points with 68 while Lawrence County’s Cale Seitzinger was second with 59 and Kyler Guercio was third with 52. And Carterville’s Austin Campbell had the largest seed-place difference of 10 positions after being seeded 13th and finishing third at 132.

Little Illini Conference Tournament

The Lawrence County co-op of Lawrenceville and Red Hill won the title of the Little Illini Conference Tournament with 177.5 points while Robinson claimed second place with 161.5 points. Richland County (131), Mt. Carmel (114), Paris (81.5) and Marshal (27) were next in line in the six-team competition which took place at Richland County in Olney.

Lawrence County got titles from Dalton Baker (21-7 at 106), Kyler Guercio (19-7 at 120), Drew Seitzinger (19-11 at 126), Hudson Meek (27-6 at 144), Cale Seitzinger (26-6 at 150), Daniel Kiser (22-10) at 157), Nick Morehead (23-8 at 175) and Malikeye Williams (26-6 at 190) while Grayson Allender (113) and Tucker Waldrop (165) took third place.

Robinson’s title winners were Landon Cornwell (27-10 at 113) and Broady Kelly (34-2 at 138) while Gracen Elliott (26-9 at 120), Connor Schrader (20-5 at 150), Lenox Parker (10-4 at 175), Reese Baker (7-7 at 190) and Tucker Hill (20-12 at 215) finished second and Drew Bledsoe (126), Edison Armijos (132) and Kellen Poole (157) claimed third place.

Richland County got first-place finishes from Kaeden Davis (14-4 at 132), Zander Schrader (23-3 at 215) and Gentry Michels (19-8 at 285) while Hayden Hazel (20-5 at 113) and Samuel Dial (15-9 at 144) placed second and Landyn Jones (138) and Finn Lathrop (175) were third.


The other champion was Paris’ Joshua Lamour (20-0 at 165). Additional runners-up were Mt. Carmel’s Kadin Melahn (13-11 at 132), Emmitt Cooley (21-7 at 138), Dakota Woods (8-14 at 165) and Paris’ Gage Wright (13-2 at 126), Garret Rigdon (18-2 at 157) and Logan Curl (16-4 at 285). Others who took third were Mt. Carmel’s Carson Sloss (144), Isaiah Hall (150), Paul-Ray Garrett (190), Jackson Kling (215) and Carter Pyatt (285) and Paris’ Christian Perez (120).

Richland County’s Gentry Michels had the most team points with 24 while Richland County’s Kaeden Davis and Zander Schrader and Lawrence County’s Daniel Kiser tied for second place with 22 team points. Richland County’s Finn Lathrop had the most total match points with 46 and was the only individual in the event with two wins by technical fall. Gentry Michels and Robinson’s Kellen Poole were the only two competitors with three pins and Gentry Michels and Mt. Carmel’s Kadin Melahn both improved four positions from where they were seeded.

Robinson had the most pins with 12 while Mt. Carmel and Richland County each had 10. Richland County had four victories by technical fall while Paris had three. Mt. Carmel had the most total match points with 162 while Robinson edged Lawrence County 146-145 for second.

Unity takes first place at Illini Prairie Conference Duals

Unity went 7-0 and capped things off with a 44-36 victory over St. Joseph-Ogden to take first place in the eight-team Illini Prairie Conference Duals Tournament in St. Joseph. 

Coach Logan Patton’s champion Rockets had an 8-6 edge in victories with four of those being pins, two were wins by technical fall, one was a forfeit and the other was a major decision while coach Bill Gallo’s runner-up Spartans countered with six falls.

The champion Rockets also won 54-24 over Monticello, 55-20 over Pontiac, 60-21 over IVC, 65-9 over Prairie Central, 77-6 over Rantoul and 72-10 over Saint Thomas More.

Monticello was third, Pontiac placed fourth, Illinois Valley Central claimed fifth, Prairie Central took sixth, Rantoul finished seventh and the High School of Saint Thomas More was eighth.

Leading the way for champion Unity were Hunter Shike (7-0 at 144/150), Hayden Smith (7-0 at 144/150), Chason Daly (7-0 at 215), Abram Davidson (6-0 at 165/175), Sam Hollett (5-0 at 132/138), AJ Daly (3-0 at 138), Devin Glik (3-0 at 157), Josh Heath (3-0 at 175), Vincent Abon (6-1 at 106), Bradley Smith (6-1 at 175/190) and Ben Mullins (4-1 at 157/165).

Top performers for the 6-1 runner-up Spartans were Levi Lee (7-0 at 106/113), Ben Wells (7-0 at 113/120), Vance McComas (7-0 at 190), Cam Wagner (7-0 at 285), Nathan Daly (6-1 at 150), Coy Hayes (6-1 at 165), Camden Getty (5-1 at 126), Liam Carter (5-1 at 215), George Hale (5-2 at 120/126), Aiden Hundley (5-2 at 138) and Alex Vaughn (5-2 at 157).

Turning in the best showings for coach Andy Moore’s 5-2 third-place Sages were Nick Litchfield (7-0 at 132), Aiden Komnick (5-0 at 120), Will Osborne (4-0 at 144), Drake Weeks (5-2 at 150), and Owen Prather (4-2 at 113).

Leaders for fourth-place 4-3 Pontiac were Jack Voights (7-0 at 126), Brayden Quas (7-0 at 157), Lucas Maier (7-0 at 175/190), Blaine Keurh (3-0 at 132/138), Drayden Ramsey (3-0 at 138), Hunter McCullough (4-1 at 285), Noah Davis (3-1 at 138/144) and Blaze Quas (4-2 at 144).

Fifth-place 3-4 Illinois Valley Central was led by Nicholas Malagon (3-0 at 120), Hunter Toliver (6-1 at 132), Malikai Bremer (5-2 at 215) and Graysen Rockey 4-2 at 285).

Sixth-place Prairie Central’s leaders were Andrew Patino (6-1 at 113/120), Treyton Zimmerman (5-2 at 106) and Elijah Mowery (5-2 at 190).

Rantoul’s top performers were Brandon Almanza (4-1 at 165/175), Michael Anthony (4-1 at 215/285) and Tyler Seals (3-1 at 165).

And best efforts for Saint Thomas More were turned in by Jamir Woods (6-1 at 126) and Yasua Walker (5-2 at 132).

Unity’s Chason Daly and Hunter Shike, Monticello’s Nick Litchfield and St. Joseph-Ogden’s Cam Wagner all led the way with 42 team points while St. Joseph-Ogden’s Levi Lee and Ben Wells had 41 team points and Pontiac’s Lucas Maier had 40 team points. Unity’s Chason Daly and Hunter Shike both recorded six falls. Pontiac’s Braden Oppermen and Lucas Maier and Unity’s AJ Daly all had two wins by technical fall. And Pontiac’s Lucas Maier had 77 total match points while St. Joseph-Ogden’s Alex Vaughn had 68 match points.

Unity collected the most team points with 427 while St. Joseph-Ogden was second with 415. St. Joseph-Ogden had the most pins with 36 while Unity had 34. Pontiac had the most wins by technical fall with seven while Unity had six. And Unity edged St. Joseph-Ogden for the most total points 409-408.
