MAINE SOUTH REGIONAL

Maine South had 12 sectional qualifiers, including eight regional champions, as the Hawks won the program’s 10th team regional title overall and its seventh for head coach Kevin Hansen.

Maine South won 240.5-203 over second-place Notre Dame, followed by Maine West (126), Leyden (117), Taft (84.5), Maine East (66), Niles West (54) and Mather (20.5).

The Hawks got individual titles from Erie Rosete (106), George Georgiev (113), Brett Harman (132), Emmett Mazukelli (138), Jake Colleran (144), Gavin Hoerr (150), Caden Ljubenko (157) and Marty Greif (175). Maine South also got third-place finishes from sectional qualifiers Ryan Ready (120), Luke Baum (126), Daniel Egan (190) and Matthew Correa (285).

Notre Dame will send 11 wrestlers to the sectional, Leyden will send seven, and Maine West and Maine East will send four. Niles West and Taft had two sectional qualifiers apiece.

HOFFMAN ESTATES REGIONAL

Conant won the 24th team regional title in its program’s history and its seventh for coach Chad Hey. The Cougars got individual regional titles from Damian Ramos (126) and Jackson Spizziri (175) to help lead a hard-fought win, 199-190.5, over second-place Schaumburg.

Conant also got runner-up finishes from Brian Hoffman (113), Emmett Arens (132) and Mike Goolish (138), and the six third-place finishes Conant had put them over the top. Hey got thirds from Ryu Yamazaki (106), Vehbi Unal (150), Shaba Kokumbaev (165), Tarik Yurtsever (190), Jaiden Thorney (215) and Evan Mueller (285) in the team win.

Lake Park (169) finished third, followed by South Elgin (112), Hoffman Estates (79), Elk Grove (63), Elgin (44) and Larkin (22.5).

Schaumburg advanced nine wrestlers to the sectional, followed by South Elgin (7), Lake Park (6), Elk Grove (3), Elgin (3), Hoffman Estates (2) and Larkin (1).

ST. CHARLES EAST REGIONAL

Glenbard West made a strong challenge for the team title in St. Charles East’s home gym, but in the end the host Saints held the Hilltoppers off, winning 232-221 on Saturday.

The win gave St. Charles East coach Jason Potter a fourth consecutive team regional title and the 10th in program history.

Wheaton North (148) placed third, followed by Glenbard North (146.5), West Chicago (73.5) Bartlett (50.5), Addison Trail (27.5) and St. Charles North (2).

St. Charles East had six regional champions among its 11 sectional qualifiers. Winning titles for the Saints were Will Difatta (113), Dom Munaretto (120), Kaden Potter (132), Liam Aye (138), Gavin Woodmancy (144) and Cooper Murray (215). The Saints also got runner-up finishes from Max Aye (106), Declan Sons (126), Luciano Litro (165) and Matt Medina (285), and a third from Jayden Hernandez (150).

Glenbard West also had 11 sectional qualifiers, followed by Glenbard North (8), Wheaton North (6), West Chicago (3), Bartlett (2), and Addison Trail (1).

LANE TECH REGIONAL

Oak Park and River Forest (266) marched seven regional champions to the top of the awards stand and had 13 sectional qualifiers in winning its 20th team regional title for first-year coach and former OPRF state champion Jason Renteria.

St. Patrick (193) finished second, followed by York (146), Lane (116.5), Proviso East (84), Proviso West (61), Payton (24) and Crane Medical Prep (23).

OPRF got individual titles from Michael Rundell (113), Jamiel Castelberry (126), Alex Cohen (132), Zev Koransky (144), Aiden Noyes (150), David Ogunsanya (157) and Lucas Albrecht (215). Five more Huskies placed second in Jordan Dezara (106), Zachary Chasson (120), Isaiah Gibson (138), Jeremiah Hernandez (165) and Pierre Nelson (285), while Donovan Lopez (175) placed third to advance.

St. Patrick had 10 sectional qualifiers, followed by by York with nine, Lane with five, Proviso East with three, and Proviso West and Crane with one sectional qualifier apiece.
