Harold Garrett

A 1946 graduate of Bloomington High School, Harold Garret was associated with education from 1951 until 1991. He was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal and substitute teacher during that time.

During his teaching career, he coached basketball, football, baseball, track and wrestling. During his years as an administrator, Harold was still very active in athletics as a wrestling and track official. Harold was selected to work the state meets in each of those sports as an official.

While in high school, Harold played football, basketball and tennis. He qualified for the 1945 State Tournament in tennis. He graduated from Illinois State University in 191 and started teaching P.E. and industrial arts at Peoria Heights grade school. In 1952 he became a P.E. teacher at Bloomington Junior High School. Harold remained with Unit 87 as an assistant principal and later principal until his retirement in 1984. He received his Master Degree from I.S.U. in 1961.

In 1960 Harold started the Bloomington Junior High School wrestling program. In 1985 he started the Olympia Junior High School program and served as an assistant coach at Olympia High School from 1984 to 1990.

Harold continued long after his coaching days to donate his time to work wrestling tournaments at U-High and Olympia High Schools.
