Bob Nesbit started his wrestling career as a two-year letterman and senior team captain at Collinsville High School in 1974. Nesbit competed collegiately for Southwest Missouri State from 1974 to 1979, earning two varsity letters.

Nesbit began his working career in 1980 as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Holden (MO) High School continuing in this capacity until 1984. While at Holden, Nesbit was the Eagles football defensive coordinator and Head Track Coach.

In 1982 Nesbit began his wrestling coaching career, returning for two years to assist his alma mater, Southwest Missouri State.

In 1984 Nesbit moved to Springfield (IL) High School as a Physical Education and Social Studies teacher and he has remained there until this day. Upon arriving at Springfield, Nesbit took over the defensive coordinator duties for the Senators and in 1988 was named the Head Football Coach. In 1991 Nesbit began work as an IHSA football official and in 2011 worked the AAA state finals.

Nesbit also took over the duties of Head Wrestling coach at Springfield in 1984 and remains in that capacity at this time. He has compiled a very solid record of 339 dual meet wins, 13 city championships, and three Central

State Eight Conference titles. In addition he has had 29 IHSA State Qualifiers and coached two state finalists. The Senators have won under Nesbit’s direction regional titles in 1993, 2009 and 2013 plus a Dual Team sectional title in 1993 to advance to the IHSA Dual Team state tournament.

He earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene in 1974. Nesbit was named State Journal Teacher of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

Nesbit has been married for 20 years to Angie and has two children, Jordan (22) a junior at Illinois State University and Chelsea (20) a freshman at Southwest Missouri State.
