Sterling Newman
Another product of the tradition rich Newman Catholic program in Sterling coached by Hall of Fame coach Rich Montgomery, Bob Mena began his wrestling career in 1975. A 1988 Newman graduate, He was a four time state finalist, winning state titles in 1986, 1987, and 1988 after finishing second as a freshman. Bob help the Comets win the State Championship as a freshman in 1985 and again aiding in bringing home a fourth place trophy in 1988. In 1988 Bob was named 1st Team All-American and set a national takedown record of 760 takedowns. He had a career record of 162-7 during his four years at Newman.
After high school Bob enrolled in North Idaho College and then enlisted in the United State Marines. Bob has served the American people in Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal twice and four times received the Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal.
In 2005 Bob was named 2005 Marine of the Year. He currently has a rank of Master Sergeant and presently has nineteen years of active duty served.
