Granite City Wrestler

Charles grew up in southern Illinois where he lived until he graduated from Granite City high school. He wrestled for HOF coach Ted Seabrook. He was state champion in 1945 and again in 1946. He was co-captain of the wrestling team and in 1946 was class President. He wrestled in many AAU tournaments winning 1st place in one, placing second in another and had two 3rd place finishes. Charles was stationed in Japan while serving in the Army. Upon his discharge, he entered the University of Illinois as a business/accounting student on the GI Bill. He wrestled for 3 ½ years for Coach Pat Patterson and received varsity Letter Sophomore, Junior & Senior years. Charles worked in SCM calculator Sales and was a partner in Computer Micrographics, Inc. He retired in 1993. Charles was inducted in the Granite City Hall of Fame.
