A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, Dan placed second in the Pennsylvania state tournament and had a 50-4 career record. He wrestled and played football at the University of Pittsburgh, earning honorable mention All-America honors in 1958 and playing in the Sugar and Gator Bowls during his collegiate career.
Dan retired in 1994 after 28 years as head wrestling coach at Highland Park High School. His teams at Highland Park won 349 dual meets, and won 5 conference championships and 1 regional title. He coached over 100 conference champions, 36 state qualifiers, and 8 placewinners.
Dan also has been active with youth and spring programs in the Highland Park area, and has taken a cultural exchange team to Germany.
