Dion Wiley has participated in the sport of wrestling for over 42 years. He wrestled for one year before high school, then for four years at Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights for coach Ron Ray, a 1984 IWCOA Hall of Fame inductee. He also was on the wrestling team at Illinois State University for one season but was unable to compete due to injury. After college, he coached for 12 years as an assistant at Bloom Trail High School.
Dion has officiated in wrestling for 20 years. During that time, he was a two-time South Suburban Conference Wrestling Coaches Association Official of the Year and was nominated for three consecutive years for the IWCOA Official of the Year award.
He served four years on the IHSA advisory board as the wrestling representative. During his career, he's officiated 17 IESA regional tournaments, 15 IESA individual sectional tournaments, and six IESA individual State Tournaments. He's also officiated two IKWF Dual Team State Tournaments and two IKWF Individual State Tournaments.
Dion officiated the IWCOA Frosh/Soph Individual State Tournament for eight years and served as the Coordinator of Officials for three years. He was the first official to work the IESA, IKWF and IWCOA Frosh/Soph Individual State Tournaments.
He has officiated in 17 IHSA individual regional tournaments, 13 IHSA individual sectional tournaments, 11 IHSA Dual Team sectional tournaments, four IHSA Dual Team State Tournaments and six IHSA Individual State tournaments.
Dion has also had the privilege to officiate in 11 Al Dvorak Invitational Wrestling Tournaments, five Cheesehead Invitational Wrestling Tournaments in Kaukauna, Wisconsin and five Geneseo Invitational Wrestling Tournaments.
Some of his notable offseason tournaments include six Disney Dual tournaments in Orlando, Florida and six Middle School Dual tournaments in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dion earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at ISU in 1992, 2013 and 2020 and is an Information Technology Director for Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163.
