Mundelein

Don attended high school at Macomb, IL where he played football and baseball.

He began wrestling at Western Illinois University. He placed second in the IIAC Conference his senior year.

His career as a wrestling coach began at Libertyville High School. After one year as an assistant, he moved to Mundelein, which was the new school in the district, as the varsity wrestling coach. He has been the varsity coach for thirty years (from 1961-1985 and 1994 to present), and has won 339 dual meets. His teams have won seven Conference championships, seven Regional titles, and thirteen invitational tournaments. One of his former wrestlers, John D’Ambrosio, was inducted into the IWCOA Hall of Fame in 1998.

During a span of seven seasons from 1964-1971, Don’s teams won 103 dual meets and lost 8 and were undefeated four of those seven years. Nine of his wrestlers have placed in the state tournament and several have gone on to become All-Americans in college.

Don has been a registered official throughout his coaching career.

He continues to be the varsity wrestling coach and a counselor at Mundelein High School. During his tenure at Mundelein, he has coached track (head), softball (assistant), and football (assistant).
