GEORGE GIRARDI

Originally from Roanoke, Illinois, George began his athletic career at Grinnell College in Iowa. His first coaching position was in Metamora where he started the Wrestling program. After 8 years there, he moved to Normal U-High where he has been the past 15 years, 13 as the Varsity wrestling coach. During his tenure at Normal, his teams won 186 Lost 98 and tied 8. They won 7 Heart of Illinois Conference Championships; 5 Districts and 4 Sectionals. In State competition his teams have placed 8th, 6th and 6th in the era when Wrestling was one Class. Since the two class system, his teams have placed 2nd, 3rd and 3rd. t of the wins have been against Class AA schools. Normal’s enrollment is equally in the 400’s. George has also been involved in the Football and Track programs at Normal during this time.
