Mike began wrestling at West Leyden High School, and transferred to East Leyden High School for Hall of Famers Marty Schwartz and Charles Farina.
After high school, Mike spent 18 months in Vietnam where he was decorated with the Air Medal, Purple Heart and Bronze Star for gallantry in action. After service, he entered into the trades and began working as an official. This began in 1970, and involved himself for 26+ years, officiating 25 regionals, 22 sectionals, 13 sectional duals, 12 state individual tournaments, and 3 state dual tournaments.
He was named IWCOA Official of the Year in 1993. He completed 9+ years of pre-season officials training meetings, and has been involved with the IWCOA beginning officials training program.
He videotaped an officials training program for new officials.
