Patrick McMahon was the 1979 132 pound State Champion for the Tinley Park Titan’s and Head Coach Steve Axelrod. An All State wrestler in 1978, McMahon compiled 132 and 17 record from 1976 to 1979. He was also a 4-time conference champion, a two-time district (regional) champion and an IHSA sectional champion.
Patrick was a two-sport athlete in high school as an all-conference defensive back and in 1978 was named to the All Area football team.
At the collegiate level Patrick enrolled at the University of Illinois (Champaign) in 1979 before transferring to Augustana College in Rock Island. Wrestling for Head Coach Dennis Riccio he compiled an impressive 102-71 record in route to becoming a three-time NCAA DIII All-American.
Patrick was a NCAA DIII National Champion in 1984, a national finalist in 1983, and a third place finisher in 1982. McMahon earned the CCIW Most Valuable Wrestler award in 1982 and was a three-time Conference Champion.
Patrick began his wrestling career for the Tinley Park Bulldogs and was the 1975 IKWF State Champion as well as a 1974 State Finalist.
