Al Bulow attended Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park and graduated in 1964. He competed in wrestling for three years and won the 165 lb. State Championship his senior year. He has a 30-0 record his senior year under Coach John Anderson. He also played football and was an All-Conference player and honorable mention All-State.

He attended Southern Illinois University and graduated in 1968. A knee injury forced him to miss his sophomore year, but he came back the following season to place 5th in the NCAA Championships at 177 lb. under Coach Dr. James Wilkinson.

In 1968, Al began his teaching career at Irving Crown High School as a Driver’s Education instructor. He worked as an official during his first year of teaching. In 1969, he began coaching wrestling.

Al moved on the Glenbrook South High School in 1970 as a Driver’s Education teacher and assistant wrestling coach. During his wrestling coaching career at Glenbrook South, Al became the head coach for five years. As the head coach from 1981-1986, he coached eight stat qualifiers and had three place winners, including on state champion. Then from 1987-1991, Al took the position of assistant wrestling coach at Deerfield High School. He returned to Glenbrook South and completed his career as an assistant coach. He has also coached football for Glenbrook South for twenty-two years.
