Chet Schultz attended Clinton, Iowa High School, receiving a varsity letter in wrestling all four years. He placed third in the state and was elected captain of the team as a senior.

In 1942 he enrolled at Illinois State University and was undefeated during that season. Before the season ended, Chet was called into military service during World War II. In 1946 he returned to Illinois State and continued his wrestling. He was elected team captain his senior year. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Illinois State University and additional graduate studies from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and Western Illinois.

In 1954 Chet started coaching wrestling at Rock Island High School. In 1956 the team placed first in the State. The team won the state title again in 1967. During Chet’s nineteen years of coaching at Rock Island the team won numerous District and Sectional titles and had assorted individual State Place winners. Chet also started junior high wrestling in Rock Island.

In 1974, Chet became the head coach at Augustana College in Rock Island.

Chet was awarded the “Athletic Achievement Award” from Northwestern University.
