Class of 2015
Frank Giannamore was born in Ohio and attended Steubenville High School. Graduating in 1954 he was a member of the Big Red’s football and track teams.
He graduated from Northern Illinois University a Masters in Education (1968) while playing football as an undergrad (1961) for the Huskies. Coach G as he is affectionately called began his teaching career at Mundelein High School where he remained for 47 ½ years as a teacher, guidance counselor, advisor and coach.
He was the varsity football Head Coach (inducted into Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2005) as well as the varsity baseball coach for a short time.
Coach G was the varsity assistant wrestling coach for 38 years, working under 3 head coaches including IWCOA Hall of Famer Don Miller. During those years the Mustangs achieved five undefeated seasons, seven conference champions while producing 12 All State wrestlers and sending 26 wrestlers to the IHSA State tournament.
Coach G was very involved in school local and county activities. As a direct result of his capacity of 25 years as a S.A.D.D. advisor he received the Enrique Camarena ‘One Person Can’ award. In addition he was awarded the Lake County Lakeland Media recognition for people that make a difference in Lake County and for its residents.
As an educator, the Illinois State Board of Education recognized him with the ‘Those That Excel Award of Merit’. He has also served as the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Illinois High School and College Driver Education Association.
Coach G served in the Illinois National Guard for 8 years and is a member of the Mundelein Lions Club.
Along with his wife Coach G has enjoyed traveling to the sites of ancient civilizations and countries, visiting six of the seven continents, excluding Antarctica.
