Morris Community High School

George was a four-year varsity starter at Morris Community High School. His 104 career wins place him in the top 10' George was a 1976 IHSA State Qualifier and placed 3rd at 155 pounds in 1977. George Dergo was both the Most Outstanding Wrestler and Most Valuable Senior Athlete in 1977. While at Morris, George was an All- Southern Illinois University-Carbondale State football player and ran Track.

George was a four-year starter in college at Illinois State University, Joliet Junior College and Western Illinois University. George graduated with B. A. in Education in 1982. George was a member of the National Runner-Up NJCAA Team coached by Hall of Famer Henry Pillard at Joliet Jr. College in 1979. George Dergo was aSilver Medalist 1979 Jr. Pan American Games.

George began his wrestling coaching career as assistant at Plainfield High School in 1984 and 1985. From 1986-1989 George was the head coach at Morris Shabbona Jr. High School. George returned to Morris Community High School in 1990. His tenure there lasted 17 Years until 2006. His 1991 team was AA Regional champs. George had 20 Individual AA State Qualifiers, 5 AA Place-Winners, and one two-time AA state champ. His

223-144-4 record is the most dual meet victories in Morris Community High School history. Geroge retired as the Athletic Director at Morris in 2016

George's other accomplishments at Morris included Head Coach 2005 6A State Champion Football Team and 2007 5A State Runner-Up Football Team.
