Chicago Fenger

Greg began his wrestling career at Chicago Hirsch High School, where he was a State Qualifier in 1963. His collegiate days were at Luther College in Iowa where he played football and wrestled. In wrestling he placed 3rd and was Conference Champion.

He began his teaching-coaching career at Chicago Parker High School, now known as Robeson. While there he had 4 State Qualifiers and 1 Place Winner. As is typical in Chicago – he moved to Hubbard High School where he had 1 State Qualifier and then to Fenger High School where his teams won 3 City Championships and were second four times. He has 51 State Qualifiers at Fenger with 7 Place winners and also qualified 1 team for the State Duals. They were City Dual Meet Championships and for this he was named Coach of the Year in the city of Chicago. During this time he was also the Head football coach at Fenger.

Greg has also officiated for 26 years. He has been the Head Official for the Chicago Public School System since 1991. He has officiated 7 State Regions, 7 City of Chicago Dual Fin and 1 IHSA Dual Finals. He was a bench official for 7 years.

Greg has been named a Friend of Wrestling.

He has officiated number Duals, both in the City and the Suburbs and worked numerous tournaments.

Greg a very active member of the Chicago Wrestling Federation and during the 70’s active with the Illinois Wrestling Federation National Junior Wrestling Teams.

He has moved to Sullivan High School where he is a volunteer coach when requested. He is still an active official.

Won 9 straight Conference individual and dual championships.
