Mick Torres wrestled at Yorkville High School, placing fourth at 98 pounds as a freshman in 1976, 3rd at 126 in 1978 and was a state finalist in 1979 at 138 lbs. He was a valuable team member as Yorkville won the Dual Team Wrestling State Title in 1976, they finished second in 1977, third in 1978 and second in 1979. Mick finished his high school career with 102-15 record. Mick was also a NEC conference tailback in 1978, setting a school record with 16 touchdowns.

Although his collegiate wrestling career at NIU ended due to a shoulder injury, Mick received his BS and his teaching certification in Earth Science in 1983. During his tenure at Lake Zurich HS, Mick obtained his MS in Educational Administration in 1990. Mick coached 3 State place winners and Lake Zurich High School’s first state champion in any sport, Al Strobl at 160 pound in class AA in 1991.

Mick left the classroom and coaching to become Lake Zurich’s assistant principal/athletic director from 1991 to 1994. He returned as an assistant coach, Assistant Principal and Technology Director at Antioch from 1994-2003. Mick is currently Community High School District 128’s (Libertyville/Vernon Hills High Schools) Educational Technology Director

Mick Torres was an IHSA Wrestling Official from 1993-1996. Mick was nominated for IWCOA Administrator of the Year in 2010 and 2019. Since 2015, Mick has been a committee member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame-Illinois Chapter.

Mick and his brother Dave have been managing wrestling tournaments since 1996. Together they launched ILWrestle.com in 2006. They have managed over 200 IHSA tournaments over the past 21 years, handling every detail from weigh-ins to seeding to final team results, including their trademark champion’s photo bracket awards. Additionally, they have provided training, troubleshooting and other resources to numerous tournament hosts and athletic directors over the years.

Notable tournaments Mick has run multiple times include: Al Dvorak Invitational @ Harlem, Berman Holiday Classic @ Palatine, Moore-Prettyman Invitational @ Barrington, Rex Whitlatch Invitational @ Hinsdale Central, Leyden, Hoffman Estates and over 48 Conference, Regional and Individual Sectional Tournaments, mostly in the northwest suburbs.
