Randy Conrad

East Leyden | Iowa State University

A three time state qualifier for East Leyden under Charlie Farina, Randy Conrad place 3rd in State in 1976 and was 126 lb. State Champion in 1978. In 1978, he was a member of East Leyden’s record setting State Championship team. That team boasted four state champions, set a record for most points scored (129.5) and largest margin of victory (67).

Randy was a two time State Freestyle Champion and twice placed fourth in the Junior Nationals.

He attend Iowa State University and placed 5th, 2nd, 1st, and 3rd at the Northern Open, placed twice (6th and 3rd) at the Midlands and won the 1982 Midwest Championships. In 1981, he was second in the Big 8 Conference, and in 1982 he finished 3rd in the Big 8. He was a two-time NCAA All-American, placing 6th in 1981 and 5th in 1982.

In 1985, Randy started coaching at Elmwood Park High School, he took over as their head coach in 1988 and that season had a state qualifier that placed third, becoming the first state qualifier and All-Starter at Elmwood Park in 20 years. In 1991, Randy became an assistant wrestling coach at Conant High School in Hoffman Estates. He was second in the IHSA Dual Team State Championships.

Randy is presently the Athletic Director at Leyden High Schools.
