Rick Amy

Class of 2005

Rick attended Sherrard High School, and graduated in 1972. He began wrestling as a sophomore when Sherrard, and started its wrestling program. He wrestled for three years and compiled a 36-14 record. He enrolled at Monmouth College, and played football for three years and wrestled for one year.

Rick started his teaching career at Rockridge in Taylor Ridge as a junior high science teacher and later served as a junior high school Physical Education teacher. He began coaching varsity wrestling as an assistant coach for six years and then served as Co-Head Coach at Rockridge High School for two years. While Rick was an assistant coach, Rockridge placed third in the Class A dual meet State Tournament in 1986 and won the Class A dual meet State Championship in 1987. In 1989 he became the head coach at Rockridge, a position he held through the 2005 season.

As the head coach, his teams won six Regional Titles, six Olympic Conference Championships, placed second in the Class A Dual Meet Championship in 1991 and were Dual Meet State Champions in 1990. His dual meet record through 2005 is 234-184-4. Rick has coached sixty individual state qualifiers and nineteen place-winners, with six winning individual state championships. He was named I.W.C.O.A. “Class A Coach of the Year” in 1990.

and Runner-up finish in 1987. As head football Coach, his led the team to the Class 2A State Championship in 1995, 2A Quarterfinals in 1996, and Class 2A State Runner-up in 1999. Also, he was Head Coach for the Illinois High School Shriners All-Star game in 1995 and 1996.

In addition to receiving his Bronze Level Coaching certificate in 1999, he is a registered official of IHSA, and member of the I.W.C.O.A., USA Coaches and National Federation of Interscholastic Officials Association. He is also a member of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association, The Illinois Coaches Association, and a Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsor.
