Rudy Salinas wrestled 4 years at Lane Tech for Jeff Newmark and Bob Schirmer. In 1987 Rudy won the Chicago Public School (CPS) Sectional and he was the captain of his Lane Tech squad. Rudy also lettered in gymnastics and football at Lane Tech. While at the University of Illinois-Chicago, Rudy was the director of their Intermural wrestling club, sponsored by IWCOA Hall of Famer, Dr. Tom Flannigan. In 1994 Rudy obtained his degree in Kinesiology and Education.

Rudy began his coaching career back at Lane Tech as an assistant coach from 1989-1993. He was the head coach at Lane Tech from 1994-2000 compiling a record of 157-45-1. He was an assistant coach from 2000-2002 at Niles North High School. Rudy moved to Evanston Township High School as their head coach in 2003. His record at Evanston is currently 271-105-1.

Rudy was the CPS coach of the year in 2000 and the IWCOA AA Coach of the Year in 2000. Rudy’s teams have won 10 IHSA Regional championships, 8 conference titles, and qualified for 6 IHSA Dual Team championships. In 2000 his Lane Tech team finished 4th at the IHSA Dual Team State Finals. Overall Rudy Salinas has coached 60 state qualifiers with two place winners and one state champion.

Rudy is a member of the Kiwanis Foundation of Evanston. Rudy received the 2014 George F. Hixson Fellowship Award. Rudy was a member of the Team Illinois Coaching Staff from 1998-2002. Rudy has been the Director of the Evanston School of Wrestling Youth Wrestling Club since 2009.
