Scott Kody attended Oak Park-River Forest High School and graduated in 1967. While in high school he was a varsity wrestler. Scott went on to college to compete at the University of South Dakota, where he wrestled for two years. He was the first freshman from South Dakota to wrestle varsity.

After college, Scott wanted to continue in the sport, so he became an official. He has been officiating since 1971. His first flip coin was a silver dollar his wife gave him. He continues to use that coin. He has served as an official at eighteen High School State Finals and ten Junior High State Finals. Scott is member of the IESA Advisory board.

Scott works as firefighter/paramedic with the Schaumburg Fire Department. He is also a Public Education Officer and a Fire Inspector.

Scott resides with his wife of thirty-three years, Carol, in Inverness.
