Thorton High School

Ted who is now retired, coached at Thorton High School from 1949 to 1964. During his coaching career his teams won, 138 dual meets, lost 67 and tied 13. He won 8 South Suburban Conference Championships, 7 District Championships and 7 Sectional Championships. His teams were 4th in the State twice, 3rd in the State two times, runner-up once and won the State Championship three times. He developed 33 state place winners of which 15 were state Champions, among them were Ben Crisler, the second 3 time State Champion in Illinois, Herman Ayers and Ken Moore who were NAIA Champions for Southern Illinois, Bill Young, Tom Porter who were NAIA place winners. Tom has just recently taken the Head Coaching Job at university of Illinois. Wayne Miller, presently coach at DeKalb, placed in the Nationals for Michigan. Besides coaching, Ted was a well-known official. He also served as Grand Marshall 1976.
