Tom Gauger was introduced to the sport of wrestling through the Chicago Park District. He wrestled in high school and also in college at Chicago State University. He was a two-time NAIA National qualifier.
He started his coaching career in 1976 and has coached at every level. Tom helped start the Illinois Cadet program.
In 1996 he ran the transportation for the world tournament. He has coached four wrestlers that have been on nine different world teams. One of his athletes, Kevin Bracken, a fellow Class of 2001 Inductee, was a member of the 2000 Olympic Team.
