Tom Reed wrestled 4 years for coach Lee Grubbs at West Chicago High School, earning a glittering 118 – 8 record. He was a two-time State Place winner, finishing 2nd and 5th, and was twice a team captain and MVP. His outstanding high school wrestling career earned him an invitation to the 1976 Olympic Wrestling Training Camp.

Tom continued his wrestling career for IWCOA Hall of Fame Coach Larry Kristoff at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he compiled a 130 – 15 record and was a 4 time Champion of the Illinois Open. He was a 4 time Division II All-American, and a one-time Division I All-American. He was voted MVP by his teammates, as well as being selected as the University’s Most Outstanding Male Athlete in 1981. His outstanding contribution to the SIUE Wrestling Program, eventually earned Tom Induction into the School’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Tom eventually became the head coach at Cahokia High School in 2010, where his teams have won 3 conference championships and 2 regional championships, while he has produced 15 State Qualifiers, and 5 State Place winners.
