Leo Kocher,

U. of Chicago, Coach

Leo began at Sycamore High School, winning 3 varsity letters and was Captain. He placed 6th in the At Northwestern, he wrestled for Hall of Famer Ken Kraft. He placed 4th in the Big 10. Post college days, his accomplishments were placing 2-2-5 in the Midlands; 3rd in the AAU Greco Roman; 4th in the USA Free Style; 2-5 in the Wrestling Federation Free Style; Champion at the Montreal Open. He was the 1st alternate to the United States University World Games. He was Co-Captain at NW.

He assisted at Northern Illinois University, working for Hall of Famer Don Flavin for 2 years; assisted Hall of Famer Ken Kraft at Northwestern for 2 years, before becoming the Head Coach at the University of Chicago in 1979. At the University of Chicago, he has had 15 All Americans in Division 3 - two of them Champions – also winning the Outstanding Wrestler's Award. His teams have been in the top 20, 4 different times. He has been responsible for organizing the Division 3 ranking procedure. He has been and is presently on the NCAA Sports Committee on Wrestling.
