Morris "Mo" Tschannen

"Mo" Tschannen attended Highland High School and was a 1944 graduate. While in high school, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and golf. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1944 through 1946. He attended Eastern Illinois University and earned his Bachelor's degree in 1950. He did not compete in wrestling in college. He played football for four years and lettered three years. He played on EIU's conference championship team in 1948. "Mo" was a member of the Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity while at Eastern. 06 I.W.C.O.A. Hall of Fame Inductees

"Mo" began teaching and coaching at St. Jacob High School in 1950. While at St. Jacob, he coached baseball and
basketball. In 1954 "Mo" began teaching business at Roxana High School. During that school year, he started the wrestling program. He coached wrestling from 1954 through 1970 and had a career dual wins record of 145 victories. He coached sixteen state qualifiers and one state champion. Upon retirement as the head coach, "Mo" began officiating. From 1965 through 1987 he officiated several regional and sectionals and officiated the state tournament in 1984 and 1985. "Mo" also coached football while at Roxana. He coached at the fresh-soph level form 1955 through 1963 and was the head football coach from 1963 through 1969. His 1963 and 1964 teams won conference titles.

After thirty-seven years of teaching and coaching, "Mo" retired from teaching in 1987. In 2004, Roxana High School
celebrated fifty years of wrestling, and "Mo" was honored as being the "Father of Roxana Wrestling"
