Edwardsville boys win SCW Martin Family Invite in St. Charles, Missouri
Edwardsville’s boys had four title winners, three runners-up and four third-place finishers to help them capture the title at the 18-team Martin Family Invitational at St. Charles West in St. Charles, Missouri with 261 points, which was 19.5 more than second place Seckman, MO.
Jersey Community also took part in the event and placed ninth place with 81 points. The Tigers, who are coached by Eric Pretto, also won a tournament title at Francis Howell North in Missouri.
Title winners for the champion Tigers were Hayden Hilmes (175), Simon Schulte (190), Roman Janek (215) and Braylon Hill-Lomax (285). Claiming second-place finishes were Michael McNamara (113), Bryson Nuttall (126) and George Ostrom (175).
Hilmes (16-6) won a 15-3 major decision over his teammate Ostrom (6-6) in the 175 title match. Schulte (26-7) took first place at 190 by winning a 5-0 decision over St. Clair, MO’s Adam Folks.
Janek (20-4) claimed first at 215 with a fall in 0:30 over Seckman, MO’s Asher Bunting and Hill-Lomax (26-7) got a pin in 1:55 over Eureka, MO’s Noah McCollum in the 285 title match.
McNamara (25-5) was edged 6-4 by Lutheran High of St. Charles, MO’s Caleb Dyer for the 113 title and Nuttall (17-8) got pinned in 3:22 by Ste. Genevieve, MO’s Brody Winters for first at 126.
Janek tied two other individuals to lead all competitors with 30 team points while Hill-Lomax tied for fourth with 29.5 points and Schulte ranked 10th in team points with 28 team points.
Claiming third-place finishes were Timothy Swaim (120), Sean Monroe (132), Ian Trauernicht (144) and Ryan Richie (150). Others who added team points were Xander Humphrey (138), Robert Eddington (157) and Kenneth Jamison (165) and Chace Matheny (120) placed fifth.
Jersey Community received third-place finishes from Maddox Williams (106) and Nicholas Hartley (157) while Bo Allison (113) took fourth place.
Xander Humphrey had the second largest seed-place difference of nine after being seeded 16th and taking seventh at 138. And George Ostrom ranked third in seed-place difference after being seeded eighth and placing second at 175. Edwardsville had the most pins with 23 and ranked second in total match points with 290.

Marion girls win Tilghman’s Steve Johnston Invite in Paducah, Kentucky
Marion scored 155 points to easily capture the title at the 11-team Steve Johnston Memorial Invitational at Paducah Tilghman in Paducah, Kentucky.
The Wildcats, who had three champions, three runners-up and two others who placed third, finished 42 points ahead of runner-up Union County, KY. Carterville (88), who also had a title winner, was fourth, Johnston City (52) took seventh, Anna-Jonesboro (43) finished eighth, Sparta (24) was 10th and Herrin (23.5) took 11th.
Champions for Marion, who’s coached by Lukus Cullum and Darren Lindsey and also won their own tournament this season, were Alauni Muex (120), Addison Arnold (132) and Sofia Hernandez-Pina (185) while Joelene Nappier-Feth (126), Daisjha Cooper (145) and Brooklyn Phemister (152) finished second.
Others in the top five for the champion Wildcats were Kishelle Gray (107) and Vida Follis (114), who placed third, Natalie Davis (165), who finished fourth, and Eris Johnson (132), who took fifth place. Alice Miller (120), DJ Tucker-Lester (138) and Grace Nall (138) also contributed to the team championship effort.
Muex (30-2) won by fall in 4:14 over McCracken County, KY’s Eelynn Hayden in the 120 finals. Arnold (22-7) got a pin in 1:42 over Fort Campbell, KY’s Hannah Porter for the 132 title. And Hernandez-Pina (22-9) won by fall in 4:38 over Anna-Jonesboro’s June Markham in the round robin to determine the 185 champion.
Nappier-Feth (29-3) lost by fall in 4:43 to Union County, KY’s Brailey Jackson in the 126 finals. Cooper (18-9) got pinned in 1:25 by Union County, KY’s Emma Cheatham in the 145 title match. And Phemister (18-12) lost by fall in 0:40 to Union County, KY’s Jacelyn Smith in the 152 finals.
Carterville got a title from Jacee Mardirosian (138) while Johnston City received second-place finishes from Tatym Cruz (107) and Kenni Lafollete (114) while Anna-Jonesboro was led by its second-place finish from June Markham (185).
Mardirosian (25-1) won the title at 138 with a fall in 3:08 over Daviess County, KY’s Kaylee Klee. Cruz (12-3) got pinned in 4:58 by McCracken County, KY’s Jillian Conn in the 107 title match. And Lafollete (17-6) lost by fall in 3:19 to Union County, KY’s Tanya Bacon in the 114 finals.
There was a seven-way tie for the most team points with 24 between Addison Arnold, Jacee Mardirosian and Alauni Muex and also four individuals from Union County, KY. Kenni Lafollete. Joelene Nappier-Feth and Brooklyn Phemister tied for ninth place with 20 team points.
Additional third-place finishers were Carterville’s Lizzy Morehead (120) and Marlie Loyd (185), Herrin’s Makayla Bush (132), Sparta’s Lilly Severson (145), Anna-Jonesboro’s Bianca Timmons (165) and Johnston City’s Kiowa Quillen (235).
Also finishing in fourth place were Carterville’s Kylie Davie (107) and Creighton Goetz (126), Anna-Jonesboro’s Jozilyn Kerr (145) and Lyra Casper (152), Johnston City’s Faith Husky (100) and Sparta’s Ruthie Orella (120).
Herrin’s Makayla Bush was one of three individuals in the tournament that captured a win by technical fall and tied Marion’s Vida Follis and one other individual for third place in total match points with 38. Marion finished with the most pins with 19 and was second in total match points with 151, nine behind first-place Fort Campbell, KY while Carterville was third with 106 points.

Lena-Winslow/ Stockton takes first at River Valley Invite in Spring Green, Wisconsin
Lena-Winslow/ Stockton got titles from Arrison Bauer, Eli Larson, Oliver McPeek, John Mensendike, Sam Sikora and Brandon White to help it claim top honors at the River Valley Boys and Girls Invite in Spring Green, Wisconsin by a 262-196 margin over Reedsburg Area, WI.
The PantherHawks, who are coached by 2020 IWCOA Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Milder, are ranked second by Illinois Best Weekly behind defending IHSA champion Coal City in Class 1A. They also took first at Erie/ Prophetstown and placed second to the Coalers at ABE’s Rumble.
White claimed an 18-12 decision over Reedsburg Area, WI’s Braden Hale-Toomey for first place in round robin competition at 126 while Bauer pulled out an 11-10 decision over River Valley, WI’s Mason Schulte in the 144 title match
Sikora won a 10-2 major decision over Cuba City/ Benton/ Southwestern, WI’s Jackson Droessler for the 157 championship and Mensendike won by technical fall in 5:52 over Burlington, WI’s Carson Cramer in the 175 finals.
Larson was a winner by technical fall in 3:42 over River Valley, WI’s Blake Brickl in round robin competition at 190 and McPeek won by technical fall in 2:35 over Burlington, WI’s Elijah Meeks in the 215 title match.
Claiming second-place finishes for the PantherHawks were Mauricio Glass (138) and Mark Detwiler (165).
Glass lost a 15-4 major decision to Burlington, WI’s Patrick Skrundz in the 138 title match and Detwiler dropped a 10-1 major decision to Cuba City/ Benton/ Southwestern, WI’s Landon Busch in the 165 finals.
Taking third place were Carson Hill (113), Sawyer McPeek (165) and Jeremiah Luke (285) while Reece Hartzell (106) and Keller Otto (120) finished in fourth place.
Claiming fifth place were Huntlee Burris (132), Tegan Arnold (150) and Duncan Nevel (175) while Reece Demeter (150) took sixth place.
The program’s four girls all placed in the top-five, runner-up Taylor Nevel (107), third-place finishers Karah Arnold (114) and Leilah Kornfeind (145) and Serena Gunday (120), who took fifth. Nevel lost an 18-4 major decision to Oregon, WI’s Peyton Longley in the 107 title match.
Eli Larson and Oliver McPeek were two of the three individuals in the field to capture three victories by technical fall. Lena-Winslow/ Stockton ranked first in wins by technical fall with 11, which was five more than any other team had, and was also second in pins with 16.

Marion’s Evan Francis (190) and Johnston City’s Jace Weaver (138) were champions in the 15-team Steve Johnston Memorial Invitational at Paducah Tilghman in Paducah, Kentucky. Marion (fourth, 121.5), Johnston City (eighth, 83), Herrin (ninth, 76) and Anna-Jonesboro (12th, 49.5) all had top-four finishers in the competition.
Francis (30-2) won by medical forfeit over Calloway County, KY’s Lane Parrish in the 190 finals. Weaver (27-5) won a 12-5 decision over Tell City, IN’s Silas Knapp in the 138 finals. Marion’s Max Wade (23-5) took second at 120 after losing by fall in 3:05 to Tell City, IN’s Kasyn Ingle.
Francis tied Ohio County, KY’s Hunter Roberts for the most team points of all competitors with 28 while Weaver ranked sixth with 25.5 team points.
Marion also got a third-place showing from John Walters (165) and a fourth-place finish from Anthony Meux (157), Johnston City also got fourths from Elijah Miller (144) and Joseph Hercules (285), Herrin received third-place finishes from Brennan Jeralds (120) and Gabe Eldridge (138) and Anna-Jonesboro got a third-place effort from Jase Holshouser (144). Eldridge ranked third in total match points with 54.

Chase Nobiling and Dominic Garcia won titles while four others placed fourth or better to help Antioch take third at the 15-team Badger Scramble in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin with 187 points.
Nobiling (22-5) recorded a fall in 4:28 over Kenosha Indian Trail, WI’s Myles Leggett in the 144 title match while Garcia (27-3) claimed a 13-4 major decision over Kaukauna, WI’s Jacksyn Thorpe in the 150 championship.
Haydren Gomez (106) and Owen Shea (285) took second place, Cole Sanflippo (120) was third, Colin Arquilla (190) finished fourth and Jacob Smith (138) took fifth place for coach John Ridle’s Sequoits in a tournament that was easily won by Kaukauna, WI with 368.5 points.
Shea (23-5) was edged 2-1 by Kaukauna, WI’s Nehemiah Lendobeja in the 285 title match while Gomez (21-14) lost by fall in 4:40 to Kaukauna, WI’s Jakob Bailey in the 106 finals. Shea was one of eight individuals who tied for first place in pins with four.

St. Charles West Krista Gurley Girls Tournament in St. Charles, Missouri
Adleigh DeWerff and Victoria White won titles and four others took second place to help Edwardsville’s girls to a fourth-place finish at the Krista Gurley Memorial Girls Tournament at St. Charles West in St. Charles, Missouri.
The hosts edged the Tigers 197.5-193.5 for fourth place while Ste.Genevieve. MO beat out Seckman, MO 231-228 for top honors in the 17-team competition.
DeWerff (21-4) recorded a fall in 0:49 over Fort Zumwalt East, MO’s Allison Schmanski to win the title at 110. And White (22-0) remained unbeaten after taking first place at 190 with a pin in 1:39 over Seckman, MO’s Lilly Julius.
Second-place finishers for the Tigers, who are coached by 2019 IWCOA Hall of Fame inductee Jon Wagner, were Emma Rogers (105), Genevieve Dykstra (115), Brooklyn Alldredge (120) and Izzy Appiah (170).
Rogers (19-5) dropped a 7-5 decision to Francis Howell, MO’s Mialee Copeland in the 105 title match and Dykstra (23-2) lost by fall in 1:51 to Ste. Genevieve, MO’s Aila Wolk in the 115 finals. Alldredge (19-5) got pinned in 2:36 by St. Clair, MO’s Lindsay Rampani in the 120 title match and Appiah lost by fall in 0:11 to St. Charles West, MO’s Lexington Johnson in the 170 finals.
Kennedy Downs (235) claimed third place while Maddy Allen (100), Hailey Buckingham (115), Geeta Janardhans (170) and Angie Nunez (235) all finished in fourth place.
DeWerff tied for fifth place or the most team points with 28 while White tied for 11th with 26 team points. Rogers was one of three competitors who led the way with two victories by technical fall.

Hannibal Girls Invitational in Hannibal, Missouri
Zoe Bloyd and Karsynn Vogel claimed first-place finishes for Quincy Senior and Jaylin Robinson finished first for Belleville East at the 11-team Hannibal Girls Invitational in Hannibal, Missouri. Belleville East edged Quincy Senior 41-40.5 for fifth place.
Vogel (12-3) won the title at 105 by getting a pin in 1:00 over Hallsville, MO’s Isabella Davis in the final round of round robin matches. Bloyd (16-2) won in similar fashion of round robin matches at 140 with a fall in 2:35 over Palmyra, MO’s Kyndal Wilt. Robinson was a winner by fall in 1:29 over Pacific, MO’s Marissa Johnson to win the deciding match for first place at 155.
Belleville East’s Lamia Irby took third at 130 while Caitrin Melvin finished fourth at 140 and Alannah Anderson took fourth place at 155. Quincy Senior also received a fourth-place finish from Aubree Murphy (130).
Robinson tied for sixth in team points with 20 while Bloyd and Irby tied for ninth in team points with 18. And Bloyd was one of three in the invite who led all competitors with four pins.
Title matches at the Hannibal Girls Invitational (Illinois individuals)
105 – Karsynn Vogel (Quincy Senior) over Isabella Davis (Hallsville, MO), F 1:00 round robin

Hannibal Boys Invitational in Hannibal, Missouri
Belleville East’s Killian Rauch claimed first place and his team also had a runner-up and four third-place finishers to help them finish with 146 points as it claimed sixth place in the 10-team Hannibal Invitational in Hannibal, Missouri.
Rauch (23-6) won the title at 190 with a fall in 4:34 over Moberly, MO’s Landon Smith. Brady Jernigan also advanced to the finals for the Lancers and he took second at 157 after getting pinned in 0:36 by Hannibal, MO’s Peyton Pritchett. Rauch ranked third in most team points with 33.5, just 1.5 points behind the leader in that category, Pritchett.
Turning in third-place finishes for Belleville East were Jackson Schadegg (113), Micheall Gibson (144), Dakari Chaison (165) and Darrell Bibbs (285) while Hayden Kattenbraker (165) settled for fourth place.
Bibbs was one of four individuals who tied for first place for the most pins with four. Schadegg tied four others for second place for the largest seed-place difference, improving five spots after being seeded eighth and finishing in third place.
Union County Bryce Sheffer Duals in Morganfield, Kentucky
Triad went 2-2 with one of its losses coming on a tiebreaker as it took fifth place in the Bryce Sheffer Duals at Union County in Morganfield, Kentucky.
The Knights closed with a 54-21 win over North Posey, IN in the fifth-place meet after falling to hosts, who won the tournament championship. In its opener, Triad lost 43-42 to Oldham County, KY, who won on criteria. It followed that with a 50-30 win over Henderson County, KY.
Top performers for the Titans were Colin Crouch (3-1 at 120), Cole Pilliard (3-1 at 132), Will Kelly (3-1 at 138/144), Bryce Cast (3-1 at 150), Alec Gilomen (3-1 at 190) and Brody Smith (2-0 at 144).
Midwest Shootout in Bettendorf, Iowa
Mercer County’s Eli Burns won a title and two Plainfield East athletes finished in the top-four at the 13-team Bettendorf Midwest Shootout in Bettendorf, Iowa. Mercer County (51) was tenth while Plainfield East (47) took 12th place.
Burns (33-5) was the lone Illinois finalist and took first place at 165 when he won a 5-1 decision over Bettendorf, IA’s Shannon Hughes. Leading Plainfield East were Nick Polzin (third at 144) and Camden McCloskey (fourth at 150).
St. Charles Girls Invitational in St. Charles, Missouri
Granite City’s Demi Barnes took first place at the 24-team St. Charles Girls Invitational in St. Charles, Missouri to help her team to an eighth-place finish with 79 points. Waterloo also took part in the event and claimed 15th place with 62 points.
Barnes (11-1) recorded a fall in 0:27 over St. Charles, MO’s Violet Lewis to capture the title at 170. She tied three others to rank sixth in total team points with 28.
Waterloo received third-place finishes from Lucy Baldwin (125) and Izabell McBride (190) and Granite City also got a third-place showing from Audrey Barnes (140). Waterloo’s Madelyn Edler was one of eight individuals who tied for first place for the most falls with four.
Rockwood Summit 141 Rumble in Fenton, Missouri
O’Fallon’s Liam Cardwell won a title and two of his teammates placed in the top four at Rockwood Summit’s 141 Rumble, which took place in Fenton, Missouri.
Cardwell claimed top honors at 120 when he recorded a fall in 5:02 over DeSoto, MO’s Deegan Francis. Gideon Gentille took third place at 132 and Triston Manrique finished fourth at 215.
