Women’s Wrestling Completes Day 1 of Senior National, Trial Qualifier
(FORT WORTH, Tex., – Dec. 21) – The McKendree University women’s wrestlers faced tough competition on the first day of the 2019 Senior Nationals and Trials Qualifier Friday afternoon. The first day consisted of the women’s freestyle 50 kg, 53 kg and 57 kg brackets. The women’s freestyle 62 kg, 68 kg and 76 kg brackets will begin on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Below are the results for the Bearcats after the first day of competition.
50 kg.
Katherine Sumner (Port Byron, NY/Dana L. West) was defeated by fall at (VFA 4:3, 12-8) to unattached wrestler Ira Jean Navarro. Sumer moved into the consolation bracket, where she was defeated by technical fall (VSU 10-0, 1:23) to unattached wrestler Hannah Peterson. Sumner went 0-2 on the day.
53 kg.
Felicity Taylor (Spillville, IA/South Winneshiek High School), ranked No.6 going into the tournament, defeated Danielle Garcia of Team Tornado Wrestling Club on a VPO 6-0 decision. Taylor went on to defeat Allena Gomez of Colorado Mesa Wrestling Club in a technical fall (VSU 10-0, 3:21). Taylor was defeated by technical fall (VSU 11-0, 4:41) to Katherine Shai of Titan Mercury Wrestling Club. Taylor went 2-1 in the day.
57 kg.
Graduate Student Gabrielle Weyhrich received a bye in the first round of competition. Weyhrich defeated Alexandria Herle of Lion Wrestling club in a technical fall (VSU 10-0, 3:59). Weyhrich was defeated by fall (VFA 5:03, 6-4) to Tiana Jackson of Menlo Wrestling Club. Weyhrich went 1-1 on the day.
Alexia Ward (Portland, OR/Westview High School) received a bye in the first round of competition. Ward defeated Emily Se of Lion Wrestling by technical fall (VSU 10-0, 2:21). Ward advanced to the next round and defeated No. 2 ranked Lauren Louive in a 2-2 decision (VPO1) of New York Athletic Club. Ward will compete in the quarterfinals match against Cameron Guerin of Titan Mercury Wrestling Club on Saturday. Ward went 2-0 on the day.
62 kg. First day of competition will be on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Emma Bruntil (), ranked No 3 going into the tournament, will face unattached wrestler Andrea Schlabach.
Alara Boyd (Muncie, IN/Yorktown High School), ranked No. 7 going into the tournament, will take on Viktorya Torres of Victory Wrestling Club WA.
68 kg. First day of competition will be on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Joye Levendusky (Avon, NY/Avon High School) received a bye in the first round. Levenducky’s first competition will be the winner between Rachel Watters (New York Athletic Club) and Rachel Mahlow (unattached).
Alexandria Glaude (West Sacramento, CA/Christian Brothers High School), ranked No. 3 going into the tournament and wrestling for Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, will face unattached wrestler Adrianna Orozco.
76 kg. First day of competition will be on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Andrea Sennett (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling High Shcool) will face unattached wrestler Nessa Martinez.
Kori Bullock (Cahokia, IL/Cahokia High School), ranked No. 4 going into the tournament and wrestling for Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, received a bye in the first round. Bulloc’s first competition will be the winner between Anna Naylor (unattached) and Yelena Makoyed (Cardinal Wrestling Club).
