Max has been an official for 30 years. During this time he was involved in countless Conference, District and Sectional Tournaments and official for the State Finals twelve times. Along with mat work, he served as a rules interpreter for ten years. Max was one of the first officials in the state to change from the “old” white uniform, to the modern dark pants and striped shirt.
Max was one of the first officials to be involved in the famous Midlands-Tournament. Previously to devoting full time to officiating, Max was wrestling coach and started the wrestling program at LaGrange High School.
During his coaching tenure, he won the First West Suburban Conference, developed 13 State place winners, and one State Champion. Max is also well known for his Track involvement, having been elected to the Hall of Fame, and serving as Grand Marshall in 1988.
