Proviso East and Oklahoma State University
Reggie Wright began wrestling as young man for coaches Fred Arkin, Frank Mohorn and Eddie Baker. These fine men guided Reggie to an IKWF state championship in 1991 and again in 1992.
Reggie went on to wrestle at Proviso East High School for IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Bill Cartwright and coaches Terry Murphy and Charles Flowers. His outstanding career included 4 regional titles and being a 4 time state qualifier. Reggie was a 2 time IHSA State Champion winning the 135 pound class in 1995 and the 140 pound class 1996. He would compile a Proviso East school record 160 career victories and he was named the IWCOA Wrestler of the Year in 1995. Reggie won a cadet national Greco-Roman title and later wrestled his way to a freestyle national championship at the junior level.
Upon his high school graduation, Reggie would wrestle one year at Triton Junior College for IWCOA Hall of Fame Coach Harry McGinnis. Reggie earned All-American honors that year for the Junior College National Champion Trojan team.
Reggie then moved on to Oklahoma State University where he wrestled for National Hall of Fame Coach John Smith and assistant Mark Perry. Reggie compiled 106 wins as a Cowboy. He was a 3 time NCAA Qualifier, a 3 Time Big Twelve Champion and 2 time Division 1 All-American.
Reggie earned a degree in Sociology at Oklahoma State, a Master's Degree in Kinesiology from Indiana University and a Master's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. Reggie has coached at Indiana University where he helped Joe Dubuque and Angel Escobedo earn NCAA titles. Reggie currently works at Proviso East High School. He is the Head wrestling coach working alongside coaches Bill Cartwright and Glenn Lid.
Reggie and wife Jennifer reside in Oak Park with 18-month old daughter Adelyn, daughter Alexis, a senior at OPRF high school and dog Elie. Reggie enjoys time with his family and he is a member of Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of the State of Illinois Aurora 254.
