Boys tournaments for Dec. 21 from Harvard, Stillman Valley, Erie

HARVARD’S 57TH SCIACCA-HOLTFRETER TOURNAMENT
Wheeling was a dominating presence in the finals, advancing 10 wrestlers to those finals bouts and coming away with three champions to win the 57th Sciacca-Holtfreter Tournament on Saturday at Harvard.
The tournament’s name comes from John Sciacca and Richard Holtfreter. Both were longtime coaches at Harvard High School. Sciacca founded the program at the school and coached for 15 years. Holtfreter had a nine-year tenure that produced a team state title in 1983.
With three champions, seven second-place finishers and three third-place winners, the Wildcats scored 269.5 points, over a hundred points more than runner-up Bartlett which had 149. Streamwood was third with 132 and followed by Woodstock’s 136.5 and North Boone’s 121.5 for the top five teams among the 16-team field.
1st place; Wheeling (269.5 points)
Frankie Katz (113), Austin Berger (144) and Pablo Morales (285) won titles to lead the Wildcats to the team victory. Thomas Katz (106), Miguel Lopez (120), Joey Romano (126), Max Katz (132), Emmanuel Lagunas (138), John Scanlon (157) and Eduardo Juarez (215) placed second while Nicholas Montesinos (165), Danny Miranda (175) and Jonny Dominguez (190) took third.
2nd place: Bartlett (149 points)
Nick Barton (132), Cameron Engels (138) and James Smrha (215) walked away from Harvard as champions for the Hawks. Filip Szeszko (150) placed second, Joseph Caputo (144) took third, Dom Thorson (175) finished in fourth and Ezekiel Carillo (150) was sixth.
3rd place: Streamwood (132 points)
Juan Cortes (150), Gabe Inorio (175) and Jace Wolf (190) were champs for the Sabres who matched Wheeling and Bartlett with three champions. Luis Martinez (113) placed second, Don Krebs (138) and Josiah Torres (215) took fifth place and Jeff Li (157) and Josh Burton (285) were sixth.
Other individual champions included Vernon Hills’ Charles Dominguez (106), Kennedy’s Victor Alvarado (120), Woodstock’s Taqi Baker (126), Proviso West’s Marquis Deloach (157) and Harvard’s Daniel Rosas (165).
Proviso West’s Marquis Deloach had four pins in 8:45 to finish as the wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time in the tournament. New Trier’s Will Weedon also had four pins, completing his run in 13:24. Kennedy’s Victor Alvarado was one of five wrestlers with two tech falls. He did it in 5:47 which was tops in the tournament. Deloach also had the most team points with 30. Wheeling’s Austin Berger had the most total match points with 50. Bartlett’s Filip Szeszko had the largest seed-place difference of the tournament. The senior was seeded 12th and placed second for a difference of 10.

ERIE/PROPHETSTOWN HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
Lena-Winslow-Stockton had three champions to win the 16-team EP (Erie/Prophetstown) Holiday Tournament on Saturday at Erie High School.
The PantherHawks scored 197.5 points to win the tournament. Newman Central) took second with 176 and Seneca was third with 147.5. Morrison had 139 and Rockridge scored 120 to round out the top five teams.
1st place: Lena-Winslow-Stockton (197.5 points)
Arrison Bauer (144), Eli Larson (175) and Jeremiah Luke (215) won individual titles to lead the squad to the team win. Mauricio Glass (138), John Mensendike (165) and Oliver McPeek (190) placed second, Reece Demeter (150) and Duncan Nevel (175) were fifth and Anthony Laino (113) and Luke Kempel (285) were sixth.
2nd place: Newman Central) (176 points)
Zhyler Hansen (126), Landon Blanton (132) and Daniel Kelly (165) all won titles for the Comets. Landon Near (106) and Javen Reyes (113) placed second, Briar Ivey (157) took third, Matthew Clemen (175) was fourth and Jacob Newberry (190) placed fifth.
3rd place: Seneca (147.5 points)
The book ends – Raiden Terry (106) and Jeremy Gagnon (285) – secured titles to lead the Fighting Irish to third place. Landen Venecia (190) placed third, Wyatt Coop (120), Chase Rod (150) and Gunner Varland (157) were fourth, Chris Thompson (113) was fifth and Ryker Terry (132) took sixth.
Illini Bluffs and Rockridge each produced two champions. Barret Speck (120) and Jackson Carroll were winners for Illini Bluffs. Jude Finch (138) and Thomas Sowards (150) won for Rockridge. Orion’s Maddux Anderson (190) won the remaining title.
Rockridge’s Jude Finch had the most pins in the least amount of time with four in 4:56. Illini Bluffs’ Jackson Carroll had the most tech falls with three. Finch had the most team points with 30. Carroll had the most total match points with 67. Erie-Prophetstown’s Aidan Jepson had the largest seed-place difference. Jepson was a 14th seed and took third place for a difference of 11.

STILLMAN VALLEY HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT
Wheaton Academy had three champions to win the Stillman Valley Holiday Tournament on Saturday at Stillman Valley.
The Warriors slipped past Oregon by just a few points, outscoring the runner-ups, 178.5 to 175.5. Host Stillman Valley was third with 142.5 points, Johnsburg was fourth with 139.5 and Marengo was fifth among the 16-team field.
1st place; Wheaton Academy (178.5 points)
Lincoln Hoger (132), Chasen Kazmierczak (157) and Tyler Jones (165) won titles for the Warriors. Oscar Smith (126) and Jeremy Johanik (215) placed second, Ian De Souza (190) and Hezekiah Garcia (285) took third, Ian Tanacea (175) was fourth and Buckley Kazmierczak (113) and Nicolas Chiappetta were fifth.

Josiah Perez (113), Isaiah Perez (120) and Briggs Sellers (285) took home titles while Nelson Benesh (132), Ethan Mowry (157) and Andrew Young (175) had second place finishes. Jakob Moser (190) was fourth, Landon Ege (126) and Jackson Messenger (138) placed fifth and Jayden Berry (150) and Jakobi Donegan (165) took sixth.

Henry Hildreth (150) won a title to lead the Cardinals. Michael Pannarale (106) and Brady Stewart (190) placed second, Zander Bell (113) and Ethan Waugh (165) took third, and Preston Ludens (126), Brady Hinkle (157) and Brodie Watterson (138) were fourth.
Dundee-Crown matched Wheaton Academy and Oregon as champions with three of its own. Aiden Healey (106), Chris Gerardo (138) and Teigen Moreno (215) won titles for the Chargers. Kaneland brothers Alex Gochis (144) and Apollo Gochis (175) also won title for the Knights. The remaining individual champions included Johnsburg’s Tanner Hansen (126) and Marengo’s Frankie Solis (190).
Wheaton Academy’s Chasen Kazmierczak had three pins in 2:24 to lead the tournament with the most pins in the least amount of time. Kaneland’s Alex Gochis had the most tech falls in the least amount of time with two in 3:39. Kaneland’s Apollo Gochis, was the lone other wrestler to have two tech fall victories, doing so in 6:19. Oregon’s Landon Ege had 23 single match points which was tops in the tournament. Ege also had the most total match points with 54. Amboy’s Caiden Heath had 53 and Kaneland’s Alex Gochis had 52. Heath also tied for the largest seed-place difference in the tournament. As a 10th seed, Health placed third, Wheaton Academy’s Oscar Smith was a 9th seed who took second place. Both wrestlers had a difference of seven.
