Bill Honeycutt

Class of 2003


A graduate of Morton East High School in Cicero, Bill Honeycutt played football and was on the wrestling team. In football, he was an all-conference selection, received the Chicago Tribune Golden Helmet award and was named his team’s most valuable player.

Bill played football at Monmouth College and was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. A knee injury during his freshman year ended his football career and he did not wrestle in college.

After graduation from Monmouth College he was hired as an assistant varsity football coach and sophomore wrestling coach at Morton East High School in 1974. His teaching and coaching career continued at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights as the head wrestling coach and assistant football coach for two years.

After leaving the teaching profession two years later, Bill began officiating in order to stay involved with the sport of wrestling. He has continued officiating for over thirty-one years. He has been appointed to eight IHSA and six IESA state tournaments

Currently, Bill is the manager of Begeman jewelers in Willowbrook and is a certified graduate gemologist.
