Harlem High School/University of Illinois

Cal Ferry was introduced to wrestling at 8 years old when he moved to Machesney Park, Illinois and became neighbors with Steve Carlson. Steve was the head wrestling coach of the Harlem Cougars and encouraged Cal to “Give it a try”. During Cal’s time as a Harlem Cougar he was mentored by great people and coaches including

Steve Carlson, Ron Hamilton, Sam Enderle, Mark Marinaro, Jim Swanson, and many others. Cal helped the Harlem Cougars win the 1997 state dual meet tournament.

Cal attended Machesney Park, Harlem High School and was coached by Charlie Fletcher and Tom Draheim. While at Harlem High School Cal compiled a 151-5 record and would win 3 IHSA state titles.

Cal went on to wrestle for the University of Illinois where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.

After college Cal spent time coaching at both Rochelle HS and Harlem HS. While at Harlem HS, he led the team

to 3 state dual meet appearances and a 4th place finish at the 2012 IHSA State Dual Team Tournament. He coached 10 wrestlers to all-state honors and 2 wrestlers to IHSA state tournament titles.

Cal and his wife Paige have 2 boys (Grant and Knox), and are expecting another boy in April. They reside in Poplar Grove, IL. where Cal assists in coaching his 2 sons in the local youth wrestling program.
