Dave Holler wrestled and played QB for Hononegah HS in Rockton IL. Dave wrestled 4 years and was a state qualifier his senior year, where he went 2-2 in Champaign. His senior year record was 35-6 with 5 of those losses were to either the state champ or runner up at 132 and 138 that year. Dave HS career record was 95-28-2
Dave was offered a scholarship to wrestle for Southern Illinois Carbondale. SIU-C lost their wrestling program in 1982. Dave transferred to Illinois State the following year to wrestle for IWCOA Hall of famer George Girardi for 4 years. While at ISU, Dave was a 2 time NCAA D1 All-American, placing 5th twice at 150lbs. Dave was ranked #2 and was selected to wrestle in the 1985 East/West All-Star meet vs #1 Jim Heffernan of Iowa. Dave won the Las Vegas Invitational by defeating Eddie Urbano of ASU 10-5 in the final. Urbano would finish the season as the 150lb NCAA D1 Champ. Dave’s career college record was 116-38-1. Dave graduated with a BS in Economics in 1985. Dave was inducted into the Illinois State Redbird Hall of Fame in 1992.
Dave has been an IHSA and NCAA official for 28 years. Dave officiated 4 IHSA State tournaments before pulling back to watch his sons compete in high school and college. Dave has officiated 9 Midlands tournaments and two D1 national qualifiers. While at the Midlands Dave officiated one of Cael Sanderson’s 159 wins at the Midlands. Dave got to watch his son win an IHSA State Title in 2013.
Dave has been working for an independent financial brokerage firm since 1992. His hobbies are wrestling, golf, biking, and motorcycle riding. Dave and his wife Sheri have been married for 26 years. Dave’s four children are Jake 27, Cody 25, Samantha 24 and Colin 21.
