Lino Martinez

Lino Martinez was a 1969 graduate of Zion-Benton High School and went on to wrestled at Illinois Wesleyan. He was team captain in 1972 and co-captain in 1973.
Lino began coaching at Mt. Pulaski High School in 1974. His Mt. Pulaski teams won four conference titles and four regional championships. His 1978 squad won the sectional championship and finished 4th in the Class A state tournament. He was named Wrestling Coach of the Year by the Decatur Hearld Review three times. After the 1980 season, Lino moved to Waukegan as an assistant coach for one year and then served as Head Wrestling Coach at Lake Zurich two years.
In 1984 Lino took the over the head coaching duties at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. He coached at Stevenson until his retirement in 2006. During his coaching career, Lino had a career record of 385-224-2 and coached sixty-two state qualifiers. He coached nine state place-winners, including three finalists.
After his retirement in 2006, Lino became an assistant coach at Carmel of Mundelein. He still serves in that capacity.
