Wrestling for Hall of Pamer Larry TenPas at Waukegan East, Mark Tiffany won the 185 lb. State Championship his senior year with a 27-0 record. He had twenty falls that season. He was named the IWCOA Outstanding Wrestler and was a 1972 Prep All American. His high school career record was 70-3. That season he won both the AAUand the IWF Junior National Freestyle Championships. He also placed second at the Junior World Games in Trieste, Italy. Mark was also an All-Area Football selection his senior year.
Mark attended Northern Illinois University and placed sixth at the NCAA Championships under Don Flavin, another Hall of Fame coach. In 1976, he was named the Mid American Conference Wrestler of the year and NIU Athlete of the Year. Mark was
NIU’s first three-time NCAA Division I qualifier. He was a two-time Huskie Most Valuable Wrestler and two-time Captain. His career record in college was 54-9-1.
In 1978, Mark began coaching at Warren High School. He is in his twentieth year as head coach and has a current dual meet record of 253-177-7.
Mark was inducted into the Waukegan Lions Club Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Northern Illinois University Hall of Fame in 2001.
