Waukegan High School

Ott coached at Waukegan for 20 years. During that time, he developed 28 state champions, 8 runner-up’s, 8 third place and 8 fourths. His team won state titles in 1958, 1963, 1964, 1965, and 1966. His teams finished in the runner-up spot in 1951, 1952, and 1962. In 1957, 1969, and 1960 his teams finished third.

Ott, along with developing many state place winners and eventually collegiate wrestlers, has the unique distinction of developing each of his three sons to state championships and more unique, one son won three titles. Mike won one, Steven won 1, and Rick won 3. Rick is the present University of Michigan Head Wrestling Coach
