Rich Montgomery has coached in Illinois for twenty-four years. He spent two years at Jerseyville from· 1979-80. He was the head coach at Sterling Newman from 1980-l99l. He has been the head coach at Rock Falls from 1992 through 2002.

Rich’s teams have an ongoing career record of 373-210-5. His teams have won six conference titles, 10 regional championships, and 2 sectional crowns. His 1985 Sterling Newman squad won the Class A Dual Team State Championship while the 1988 team placed third:

In 1985, the I.W.C.O.A. selected Rich as “Class A Coach of the Year.” He was nominated as “Coach of the Year” in 1987, 1988, 1989, and 2000. He has coached 55 state qualifiers, 34 medal winners, and 16 individual state champions.

As a member of the Adopt-A-Highway Committee of Rock Falls, Rich ‘serves as the chair. He is member of the Rock Falls Optimist Club, president of Rock Falls District 13 Elementary School District, served on Sterling-Rock Falls YMCA Board of Directors, and has served two years on Rock Falls Zone and Planning Commission. He has also served four years as president of the Rock Falls Teachers Association.

In his present capacity as Athletic Director at Rock Falls, Rich is also the transportation director, Medicaid officer, hearing officer, and assistant football coach
