Bill is from East Leyden High School, where he wrestled for Hall of Famer Chuck Farina. His collegiate days were spent at Wayne State College in Nebraska, where he was a qualifier for the NAIA Nationals. He was All Conference.
His teaching coaching career began at Proviso East High School in 1970, with his coaching being Wrestling and Football at the freshman level. He continues this until he took over the Varsity Wrestling program in 1977-1978.
His Varsity Coaching record is 11 Conference Titles, 9 Regional Titles, 8 Sections Titles and 1 Runner-up. He has had over 230 Dual wins, he has had 72 State Qualifiers, with 26 Place winners, 4 were State Champions.
His teams down state were 2nd, 2nd and 8th in the Individual Tournament. His Dual teams have qualified 5 times, placing 3rd and 4th and twice winning the State Championship in 1986 and 1991.
Bill has been voted Coach of the Year in Illinois is 1980, 1986 and 1991 and was nominated 6 other times. He was also nominated National Coach of the Year by the Illinois Coaches Association in 1992.
Bill has helped coach 6 Illinois National Teams.
He is presently a member of the IHSA Wrestling Advisory Board.
