Glenn Exton, born in Alton, IL began his wrestling career at Roxana wrestling for IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Larry Milazzo. He compiled an 83-30 career record and was a 2 time IHSA State Qualifier and a Sectional Champion.
Exton was a four-sport athlete at Roxana also lettering in football as an All-Conference Nose Guard, an All-Conference baseball player and a Pole Vaulter for the track team.
Exton wrestled one year for at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville for IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Larry Kristoff.
Exton started the Roxana Park District kids program (IKWF) at 19 years old, coaching there for 8 years. He then coached another 5 years at Edwardsville Junior High while continuing his involvement in the IKWF. The dual meet record at Edwardsville Junior High was 43-7 during his tenure. For those 13 years, Exton had more than 80 state qualifiers and 15 place winners.
In 1992 Exton began his high school coaching career at Vandalia High School and coached there for 14 years. Exton is now at O’Fallon Township High School for the last 8 years and has garnered a superb 407-91-3 record. Over that time span he has had 83 IHSA State Qualifiers, 18 All-State wrestlers, 2 State Finalist and 3 State Champions.
Exton’s 1996 Vandalia team went undefeated (23-0) en route to the Dual Team State Championship. He has guided 9 teams into the Dual Team state tournament with 5 of those teams placing in the top 4 in the state. His teams have won 69 straight regular season dual meets, 32 regular season tournaments championships, 12 IHSA Regional Championships, and 13 conference championships.
A four-time finalist for the IWCOA Head Coach of the Year Award, Exton has served on various IHSA committees including the Wrestling Advisory Board.
Exton also has coached football for 18 years at both Vandalia and Edwardsville High Schools. He is currently a Physical Education and Driver’s Education teacher at O’Fallon and his favorite hobbies is fishing.
