Mark Trizzino began wrestling for the Joliet Boys Club and IWCOA Hall of Fame coach Larry Stonitsch and he was the 1974 IKWF state champion.
Wrestling at Joliet Central High School for IWCOA Hall of Fame Coach Mac McLaughlin, Trizzino was a two time IHSA state champion (1978-79) for the Steelmen. While in high school Trizzino was a three time Junior National Freestyle All American and won the 1977 National Championship.
He was selected to the 1978-79 USA Magazine’s High School All American team and as a member of 1979 Coaches Association All American team.
Academically Trizzino graduated from Joliet Central as a member of the National Honor Society.
Trizzino matriculated to the University of Iowa to wrestle for their legendary coach, Dan Gable. He was a four time Midlands place winner, placing third, runner-up two times, and won the 1983 title. In 1981 representing the USA he was the Junior World Freestyle Bronze medalist. He was also given the International Trophy of Fair
Play, awarded in conjunction with the United Nations and selected by a Committee chaired by International Olympic Committee Chairman Trizzino was the 1982 Big Ten champion and the 1984 finalist. In 1984 the Hawkeyes won the NCAA National Championship with Trizzino as one of the senior stars.
Since 1988, Trizzino has been employed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals.
